AroundMe
Price: Free; Developer: Tweakersoft
AroundMe uses the iPhone to pinpoint your location and then serves as a directory of businesses and services in your immediate area. The app's main screen displays a list of headings, like Banks/ATMs, Bars, Coffee Shops, Gas Stations, Hospitals, Movie Theatres, and Hotels. After you make your selection, it creates a customized list based on what's in your geographic area.
From this list, you can choose to call a specific company or service, get turn-by-turn directions from your location to that company, or view its location (compared to yours) on a map. You can also instantly add any listing to your iPhone's Contacts database.
Once you reach your destination, the AroundMe app allows you to post your whereabouts directly to Facebook or Twitter. This is an extremely useful alternative to using a telephone directory because the app utilizes your current location to create a custom business listing based on what's in your immediate vicinity and exactly what you're looking for.
