Keep Your Apps Up-to-Date
Many app developers constantly improve upon their apps by adding new features and functions. Once you've purchased an app, however, all updates for it are offered for free through the App Store.
The easiest way to check for new updates to your existing apps is to click the "Updates" icon when using the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad. If you're notified that an update to one or more of your apps is available, click the "Update All" icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Each time Apple releases an update to the iOS operating system (the next update, iOS 4.3, is slated for release in January 2011), many app developers also publish updates to their existing apps.
To ensure that all your apps are always up-to-date, check for updates at least once every week or two when using the App Store app on your device, or from iTunes on your computer.
To keep your iPhone or iPad's Home screen from getting too cluttered with apps you don't use, to delete an app from your device, simply press and hold any third-party app icon when viewing the Home screen until all the app icons start to shake. In the upper-left corner of each icon is a black and white circle with an X within it. Tap on the X and the app will be deleted from your device.
If, however, you have synced your iPhone or iPad with iTunes on your computer between the time you first loaded the app and when you delete it, a copy of that app will remain on your computer's hard drive. So you can easily reinstall it onto your device from iTunes without having to repurchase or redownload it in the future.
