Syndicating Your Content on the Web
Posterous is great for syndicating content on the Web. For example, when you post something on Posterous, you can choose to post it automatically (autopost) to a variety of other sites as well. Autoposting your content helps you to reach a wider audience, saves time, and provides backlinks to your Posterous site. You can autopost your Posterous content to any of the following sites:
- blip.tv
- Blogger
- Delicious
- Drupal
- Facebook (profiles and pages)
- Flickr
- FriendFeed
- Google Buzz
- Identi.ca
- Jaiku
- LiveJournal
- Movable Type
- Picasa
- Plurk
- Scribd
- Shopify
- Tumblr
- TypePad
- Viddler
- Vimeo
- WordPress (XML-RPC must be enabled)
- Xanga
- YouTube
To set up autoposting, you need to go to the Add a Service page and add each service you want to use for each Posterous site you create (see Figure 5). This activity might take some time if you want to share on many sites, but it's a one-time task.
Figure 5 Add a service to autopost to it from your Posterous site.
After you set up autoposting for a service, Posterous automatically shares each new post with that site. If you want to be more selective with autoposting, you can customize exactly what to autopost. For example, let's say that you set up your Posterous site to autopost to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and FriendFeed. If you send email to post@posterous.com, your content is shared on all four sites. But what if you decide that a specific post is only suitable for Twitter? In that case, email your content to twitter@posterous.com to post only to Posterous and Twitter, ignoring the other services you set up. To autopost only to Twitter and Facebook, email twitter+facebook@posterous.com. If you don't want to autopost to all the sites, send your email to posterous@posterous.com. When you post content on the Web or share with the bookmarklet, you can choose the services where you want to autopost.
