Access Office Anywhere with Web Apps
Microsoft also introduced the Office Web Apps along with Office 2010. These are web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Though these versions are streamed down, they provide the basic features and functions of their application counter-part.
The Office Web Apps are accessible to the public via SkyDrive (Figure 9 shows an example of Word) or Docs.com. They can also be privately hosted via SharePoint or Microsoft Online Services.
The Office Web Apps also aid in sharing and collaborating Office documents. It enables the new co-authoring functionality discussed earlier. Plus they let you create and edit documents from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection.
You can, for example, jump on a public workstation that doesn’t have Microsoft Office installed and still be able to edit documents with your SkyDrive account, all right in the web browser.
