Compressed Snapshots Versus Uncompressed Snapshots
The advantages of using compressed snapshots are mostly obvious. If you have to send snapshots to clients, you can compress the snapshots; because you're sending less data, it takes less time.
To compress your snapshots, create and then right-click the publication; then select Properties. Click Snapshot under Select a Page; then select Put Files in the Following Folder and specify the desired folder. Select Compress Snapshot Files in This Folder (see Figure 1).

However, the sad fact is that for small snapshots, you're better off leaving them uncompressed. The compression/decompression time is longer than the time saved by sending a smaller amount of data across the wire. Also, the compression option doesn't work for dynamic snapshots.
