When it comes to manipulating the volume shadow copy service on a Vista PC, the best rule to observe is the one that entitles this section. If you’re not suffering from disk space shortages or haven’t experience any unusual events or errors from the Volsnap (System log) or System Restore (Application log) services in Event Viewer, you can cheerfully leave VSS alone to do its thing. Only if you find something you don’t like or want to limit an oversized allocation should you feel compelled to resize volume shadow storage space for a drive. But now at least you know where that “missing storage” is going, and what it’s being used for!
