Summary
This chapter discussed how Windows 2000 Services work and provided an overview of the function of each service. All services are not required and, when building a secure system, it's best practice to disable unnecessary services. This is especially true when servers will be made accessible over the Internet. Later chapters, such as Chapters 14 and 15 of this book, discuss disabling specific services to build a hardened Windows 2000 configuration to support Internet Services that will further build on the knowledge provided in this chapter.
