On to the Specifications
In the following chapters, we walk you through a closer look at the SMIL specification. Working from the outside to the inside of SMIL document construction, we explain the possible elements and their attributes. For your convenience, we highlight differences between SMIL 1.0 and 2.0 elements and attributes. We also inform you of which modules fit within which profiles. Finally, we cover player and browser support based on the current and beta software available at the time that we write this book.
SMIL is a living language that is constantly changing and adapting to the needs of the Web multimedia community. This book is a fixed record of that process. For the very latest news on SMIL, visit World Wide Web Consortium's SMIL information site (http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/) and the companion site for this book: SMILBook.com (http://www.SMILBook.com/). The W3C is the final authority on the SMIL specification, and SMILBook.com is a great way to keep up on how that is impacting the SMIL community.
