Access Control Support in the ASP Environment

The support for access control in the ASP environment would depend on which firewall solution is used to provide secure access within the server farm. Among the various technologies that you have seen in the network, you can use a combination of the following in a hosting environment:

  • Use of a packet-filtering firewall. This is commonly be used to protect the applications in the farm from hackers on the Internet.

  • Use of SSL. This is commonly be used in Web servers (and other applications) to validate that communication with any end-client is happening on a secure channel.

  • Use of IKE. This is commonly be used to create a VPN from the server farm back to a customer's site for any administrative function, such as code upgrade.

The low-level policy issue in these cases is to simply identify the correct function for all the firewalls in the network and to ensure that they are configured correctly and consistently.

Application and System Logs
