Q&A
-
There seems to be a problem linking to files on my server that contain : and \ in the filename, why?
-
These characters are commonly used as path delimiters by the Mac OS and Windows operating systems. Be sure to determine what characters you can use before you use anything other than alphanumeric.
-
I've designed plenty of sites without site maps, why start now?
-
Small sites can be designed without a site map without many problems. Larger sites consisting of hundreds of pages in dozens of separate sections require planning. Approaching a large site from the perspective of a small site is a big mistake.
-
What's the best way to get files to my server?
-
I prefer to use Network/Local server access, or None to directly edit the files. If you have no other options, FTP should work fine for you.
-
What happens if I check out a file and I don't check it back in?
-
You'll make the other editors unhappy. They can override the file editing, but overriding the file locking negates the entire purpose of the check in/out system.
