Cisco Wireless Certifications
Cisco offers two specialist certifications geared toward Cisco wireless LAN support and design: the Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist and Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist. Both certifications require a Cisco certification (the CCNA and CCDA as a prerequisite, respectively) and successful completion of one exam, as follows:
Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist: This credential aims to identify field technicians who install and support Cisco wireless LANs. To qualify as a Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist, candidates must first obtain the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credential and pass one exam (Cisco 9E0-581) that focuses on radio frequency issues, WLANs, wireless bridging, and advanced wireless technologies such as spread spectrum and access points from a field support perspective. For more information about this certification, go to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/learning/le3/le2/le41/le52/learning_certification_type_home.html.
Cisco Wireless Design LAN Specialist: This credential aims to identify professionals who design Cisco wireless LANs. To qualify as a Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist, candidates must first obtain the Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) credential and pass one exam (Cisco 9E0-576) that focuses on radio frequency issues, WLANs, wireless bridging, and advanced wireless technologies such as spread spectrum and access points from a design perspective. The exams are administered through Prometric, they last for 75 minutes, and they cost $125 each. Specialists who wish to maintain their certifications must recertify every two years by retaking the current exam for their chosen specialization.
