We do have a little surprise to make up for the limit on installing RC to 64-bit XP. You can boot the XP Recovery Console on a Windows 98 system! That doesn't mean that anyone shouldand it's possible to damage systems with OS incompatibilities, not just the misuse of commands, although not all the commands work on Windows 98. But it's better to know of a bad option than to have no option at all. File it under "Desperate measures to be measured carefully."
A final piece of advice: Any time possiblei.e., if Windows isn't brokenremember to leave Recovery Console gracefully with the exit command and shut down Windows properly, rather than just turning off the screen.
NOTE
Extra points to long-timers if the command prompt makes you want to type park before switching off the power.
