Derby and Support
In previous articles, I commented that it’s probably unlikely that you’d use Derby on mission-critical applications. This is still the case.
The application described here uses an instance of Derby as a means of local data storage. However, as Derby continues to be used in such applications, it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that it will be feasible to get technical support.
And why not? Linux is an open-source product for which you can now get support. However, the problem is money! Linux support is not cheap, so some way needs to be found of defining a Derby business support model.
