Introduction to InfoPath
Codenamed XDocs during its development, Microsoft InfoPath 2003 is a new addition to the Microsoft Office System 2003 Suite. InfoPath 2003 attempts to solve a fundamental problem facing modern business: enabling information workers to collect structured data in XML and then forward that structured XML to appropriate business processes all without requiring the users to understand XML.
InfoPath 2003 is the first of a new class of XML forms editors attempting to meet this business need. InfoPath is intended to provide a forms tool that creates XML that can be sent to any of these destinations:
Relational databases such as SQL Server or Access
XML web services
Windows SharePoint Services version 2 sites
SharePoint Portal Server version 2 portals
BizTalk 2004 servers (currently in beta)
