Avoiding Pretexting/Impersonation
Awareness and education are key defenses against nearly all threats, and pretexting/impersonation are no exception. First, don't give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the Internet unless you yourself have initiated the contact or you're sure you know who you're dealing with. Next, speak to a representative at your financial institution. Ask them about pretexting, and see if they have policies in place to protect their customers.
