Foreword
Imagine that one of the foremost computer-science theoreticians, Don Knuth, and one of the most practical solution architects, Jim McConnell, co-authored a book on wireless technology, and you now have a good view on what to expect from Essential WAP for Web Professionals by Damon Hougland and Khurram Zafar.
While the industry trade publications are replete with sensational but often vacuous information about wireless, and the scientific publications cover the technology in arcane detail, the only other source for good credible information on WAP (wireless application protocol) is voluminous standards documents. What the industry seems to lack is a practical definition of WAP technology. Essential WAP... addresses this important void and serves up a very important body of practical knowledge.
Damon and Khurram are my colleagues at eFORCE. They work as a technical leadership team, helping Global 2000 organizations refine their strategic goals, and define practical solutions that meet their time to market goals, technology and budget constraints.
