Tilak Mitra

Tilak Mitra is a Senior Certified Executive IT Architect with the Business Analytics & Optimization (BAO) organization within IBM Global Business Services (GBS). Mr. Mitra assumes the role of the Chief Architect for the Industrial Sector with a primary focus on the oil & gas and industrial products industries, while spending commensurate time on the automotive, aerospace & defense, and electronics industry clients also. His current responsibility and specialization is on Big Data and leveraging the gamut of Big Data offerings and solutions to develop the information strategy and the maturity roadmap for IBM’s core accounts in his primary focus industries. Mr. Mitra is also responsible for the execution and delivery of critical projects that revolve around predictive analytics (based on data in rest and data in motion), information architecture on the Big Data platform, and end-to-end solution delivery. In this capacity, he manages complex engagements focusing on project scope, deliverables, change management, and communications, while at the same time ensuring that the technical solution and its implementation adhere to the IT strategy, the solution architecture, and the technology standards. 

Mr. Mitra brings in his industry thought leadership to align and recommend the right strategy to identify and execute on the highest value IT investments. Mr. Mitra has deep knowledge on the art of analyzing predictive analytical models to determine model fit and applicability to solving business analytics problems. He leverages his enterprise architecture expertise, his experience and thought leadership around Big Data technologies, and offerings along with his predictive analytics experience to develop compelling business solutions.

Mr. Mitra also specializes in business-to-IT alignment and leveraging business strategy to drive IT strategy and transformation. He brings in his distinguished expertise in complex enterprise architecture and is a well-known subject matter expert in service oriented architectures (SOA), focusing on its applicability in the design and development of medium to large scale SOA-based distributed systems (B2B, B2C, etc.) on the .NET and/or J2EE platform, along with various other middleware enterprise application integration technologies. He also has experience and expertise in the areas of infrastructure architectures and server consolidation.

With more than 15 years of experience in IT enterprise architecture and application design and development, he has successfully architected, designed, and implemented enterprise systems and applications as well as led development teams in implementing solutions. 

Mr. Mitra is a Senior Certified IT Architect, Certified IT Architect, and a Certified WebSphere Specialist from IBM. He is a Distinguished Certified IT Architect from the Open Architecture Group and is also a Certified J2EE Enterprise Architect and a Java Programmer from Sun Microsystems.

He is the author of two well-known books on SOA and SOA governance. He has been a contributing editor for the world-renowned Java Developer’s Journal (JDJ) and also a regular contributor to technical journals such as IBM DeveloperWorks, Java Developer’s Journal, and WebSphere Developer’s Journal; he has around 25 articles currently published.
