Google Play Books
Here’s a quick primer on how to use the updated Google Play Books app to read a book on your Tab 3:
- Tap the Apps icon on the Home screen.
- Tap Play Books in the Apps screen.
- In the blue menu bar at the top of the screen, tap the Play Books icon at the left side of the bar.
Tap Shop in the menu, as shown in Figure 9, so you can shop for a book in the Play Store.
In the menu (see Figure 9), tap My Library.
Figure 9 The Play Books app menu appears on the left side of the screen.
- In the My Library page, tap the cover of the book you want to read.
The first page of the book appears on the screen, as described on page 324 of My Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. You can flick left or right to move between pages. However, when you tap on the page in the book, you see a new reading aids page (see Figure 10) that shows a smaller (but still readable) version of the page you're reading in the center of the screen.
Figure 10 The reading aids page shows the first page of the book in the center of the screen.
Pages before and after the current page appear as truncated pages on either side of the current page. You can move between the pages of the book by tapping and holding on the current page and then swiping left or right.
At the bottom of the screen, you see the slider bar. The blue button on the bar shows you the current position relative to the entire book, which is represented by the bar itself. A thumbnail image of the current page appears above the blue button. You can move to a different page in the book by tapping and holding on the blue button in the bar and then swiping to the left or right.
Four icons appear at the upper-right area of the screen so you can (from left to right) search for text in the book, view the table of contents, change how you view content on the page, and access a settings menu so you can perform such tasks as learn about the book and have the Play Books app read the book text aloud.
