Matt Bauer (Saint Paul, MN) is an independent consultant for implementing Ruby/Rails for data processing for a variety of large and small companies. He has specialized in building systems that deal with large amounts of data for most of his professional career. Matt has worked for numerous government agencies processing everything from weather data to transaction systems that processed trillions of dollars daily. In late 2005 he discovered Ruby after working many years with Java and immediately enjoyed working with it. Later that year he moved completely over to Ruby and Ruby on Rails working with a number of startups. Matt eventually was introduced to Obie Fernandez and contributed to his book entitled The Rails Way.
Matt currently works with companies of all sizes to process and visualize their data with Ruby. He's an experienced Ruby/Rails developer who spends his free time working on various Ruby/Rails open source projects. He's also active in implementing better dimensional data modeling systems. His background has always been working with large data sets as Matt initially worked on weather data for NOAA and NASA while in college. After college he worked for the USPS tracking mail and later, Matt worked on a new version of ACH/Wires for the Federal Reserve.

He stays current with various database research and closely follow a number of academic, open source and commercial implementations.
