THOMAS STARR, Sr. Member of Technical Staff at SBC Technology Resources Inc., is responsible for development and standardization of xDSL and other new local access technologies for SBC's network. He serves as vice-chair of the T1E1.4 DSL standards working group and vice-chair of the DSL Forum.

JOHN M. CIOFFI, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford, holds over 40 patents, including basic patents on DMT, VDSL, and V-OFDM. He spent seven years at Bell Laboratories and three years at IBM, and now advises many leading communications and investment firms.
PETER SILVERMAN has represented the DSL Forum's interests to other standards bodies and was its principal architect for CPE management and auto configuration. Starr, Cioffi, and Silverman co-authored Understanding Digital Subscriber Line Technology (Prentice Hall PTR).
