Gary Hirshberg

Gary Hirshberg learned about running a business as the CE-Yo of Stonyfield, now the world’s largest organic yogurt producer. In his widely-praised book, Stirring It Up--How to Make Money and Save the World, he told how the company grew from seven cows in a New Hampshire barn to a business with revenues topping $330 million a year. No less than Robert Redford said, “Gary Hirshberg dared to dream new ways of doing business based on his respect for customers, employees, and the earth....And it worked. If you buy or sell anything, or simply want to feel hopeful about the future, this lively and legitimately optimistic book is worth every minute.”

Hirshberg is a renowned speaker on such topics as sustainability, climate change, the profitability of green business, organic agriculture, socially responsible business, and sustainable economic development. A New Hampshire native, Hirshberg was one of the first graduates of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He has received nine honorary doctorates and been named a Gordon Grand Fellow at Yale University. He was featured in the award-winning documentary Food, Inc.
