This article introduced you to setting up a RAID 1 array. In particular, I showed you how to use an Adaptec 1200A for our study. There are numerous other RAID controller cards that can keep your hard drive data safe via disk mirroring. In fact, some of the higher-end motherboards come with built-in RAID controllers on the motherboard.

The Adaptec 1200A is a good entry-level card for home users. Although it was not covered in this article, you can set up a RAID 0/1 array by using the Adaptec 1200A. This is a complex setup that involves four hard disk drives. However, using such a setup, you can capitalize on the benefits of RAID 1 (disk mirroring to protect against data loss) and RAID 0 (using hard disk drives to read and write data in parallel to speed up disk access).
