NetRestore: Easing the Process of Network ASR Restores
As with local disk deployments using Apple Software Restore, there is a graphical tool to make the process simpler. NetRestore, developed by the author of Carbon Copy Cloner, actually goes further than simply providing a GUI for network-based ASR operations. It can also build basic NetBoot image sets that can be used with Mac OS X Server to provide the required alternate startup disk for ASR. The NetBoot image boots the target workstation directly into NetRestore—and it can be automated. The difference between this option and Apple NetInstall is that it allows for multicast operations.
