A Quick Word
The important thing about those over-stuffed, computer-choking files is to keep the work in perspective. Word is only going to go so fast. Try not to let yourself be pressured, because that destroys any chance to think creatively about opportunities that present themselves.
Once, for example, I invited a manager to have a seat while I made the changes she was requesting in a monster doc. Word, true to form, promptly locked up everything—as it had been doing for days. In fact, it locked twice before I was finished. As I rebooted, I mentioned that the computer really needed the memory upgrade I’d been asking for.
It arrived that afternoon.
