The Summary Function I Want is Not Available
This situation usually occurs in PivotTable reports based on OLAP data using the OLAP Cube Wizard. The summary functions you will have available are based on the functions defined in the OLAP cube file, namely Sum, Count, Min, and Max. Other functions (such as StdDev) that are available with other data sources will not be available. There are two potential solutions:
- If you can, set up your OLAP data source using Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Server rather than the OLAP Cube Wizard that is part of Office. The former has a much wider range of summary functions you can use.
- If the amount of data is not too great, and can be handled by a standard (non-OLAP) query, you can base the PivotTable on a standard query rather than on an OLAP cube. The full range of summary functions will then be available to you.
