Extending the Experience
Although still in its early stages, the MCE "extender" market will continue to grow and to help integrate Media Center into family life. An MCE extender is typically a hardware dongle that allows wireless connectivity with other devices in the home. For example, with current extender technology you can broadcast videos played on MCE to the other TV sets in your house. This would be useful, for example, if you wanted to keep your living room clear of noisy, messy hardware, and to broadcast the signal from a back room instead. There are also Xbox extenders, and more devices will be supported in the future. Who knows? Perhaps we'll see popcorn-maker plug-ins in the future...okay, maybe not.
Another fun thing to do with your MCE: You can download TV shows to Pocket PC. With memory cards getting larger, you can now fit several hours of recorded TV onto a handheld device. With the beautiful VGA screens of Pocket PCs these days (I like the Dell Axim X50v or the HP iPAQ 4700), it makes a long road trip or plane ride pass much faster.
