Installing Linux when Running Windows
Life is never easy. We Windows users need to run a different version of Linux on our iPods. The version that you can use is PodZilla. Nice name, huh? As with iPodLinux, the code is all open source. If you are feeling brave, you can download the original C++ source code. You can open the C++ files in your favorite editor, such as Visual Studio.
To get Linux onto your iPod when running Windows, follow these steps:
You have to install an additional piece of software. A good software package to use is uClinux, which can install Linux onto your iPod from a Windows computer.
Run the installer.
Choose the PodZilla installation.
On the last screen, update the Apple Firmware.
NOTE
It is important that you update the Apple Firmware so that you can switch back to your original iPod settings.
You can watch a demonstration video that shows the iPod in dual-boot mood for either default setup or Linux. You can see other screen shots of Linux on the iPod here.
Now that Linux is installed on your iPod, you should be ready to rock 'n' roll.
