Discrete 6.1 Surround
DTS followed Dolby's lead by releasing a matrixed 6.1/7.1 system they called DTS ES. (Not EXES. Gotta be different.) But then they decided to go hell-bent for leather, and came up with a discrete 6.1-channel system, with a separatenot matrixedsixth channel. You can tell the difference. DTS ES Discrete, as it's so cleverly called, sounds noticeably clearer than either Dolby Digital EX or plain old DTS ES. Unfortunately, DTS is kind of the bastard child of home surround, so there aren't a lot of DTS ES Discrete DVDs to listen to. But when you find one, it's kind of cool.
