Questions
1. Summarize what engineering ethics is.
2. What is a conflict of interest? Give an example.
Answers
1. Engineering ethics is being fair and honest while performing your duties to your employer and client, but ultimately protecting the interest of the public. In addition, as an engineer, you should always disclose any conflicts of interest to the affected parties. Moreover, you should only undertake work for which you have the appropriate background and experience to perform.
2. A conflict of interest is a set of circumstance that creates a risk that a professional judgment or decision may be affected by a secondary interest. If you, as a student, were asked to grade your own exam, that would be a conflict of interest.
