Wireless Device Docking
Though purely local in scope and reach, wireless device links or virtual device docks can be extremely useful. Originally designed to permit PDAs to exchange data, and for PDAs and PCs to link up and synchronize email, data files, and so forth, such infrared links have become handy for all kinds of uses. With bandwidths as high as 16 Mbps now available in some implementations, it's safe to say these links mesh well with other wireless LAN technologies (though the actual communications protocols differ, and these types of links usually communicate directly with PCs or printers, rather than with general-purpose networking hubs).
