ActiveX Components
You must have Microsoft's WMI SDK installed to participate in the tour
of the CIM repository. The WMI SDK contains a collection of ActiveX components
to help you administer and access WMI. They install only as part of the WMI SDK:
All are in wbemtool.cab file. (CAB, shorthand for CABinet, is Microsoft's
mechanism for compressing and packaging files. For more information, go to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/
workshop/components/activex/
packaging.asp.) You can
unpack them and use them independently in any compliant ActiveX container.
Microsoft supplies the ActiveX controls as freely distributable components with
the WMI SDK. You need Internet Explorer 4.01 or later installed to run programs
that come with the WMI SDK. Full details of the various ActiveX controls are in
the WMI SDK documentation.
You will find short cuts to these tools under the Start/All Programs/WMI SDK folder. This folder contains useful utilities for administering and testing WMI. The ActiveX components all use the WMI API to access WinMgmt.exe.
