Troubleshooting
Identifying Multiple Pocket PCs
I have two Pocket PCs and want to synchronize them both with the same computer, but my desktop PC is recognizing only one device.
When using more than one Pocket PC, it is very important to give each device a unique name so that the desktop PC can distinguish between the devices. You then can create a partnership for each device in ActiveSync. To set or change the name of a device, follow these steps:
Tap Start, and then tap Settings.
Tap the System tab, and then tap the About icon.
Tap the Device ID tab.
Enter a name for the device (no spaces), along with a device description. The Pocket PC device name must start with a letter and consist of the letters AZ and the numbers 09. Underscores are also allowed and can be used instead of spaces if you want to separate words.
Tap OK in the upper-right corner to accept the device name and description.
Restarting Your Device
My device is acting a little strange, and I want to perform a restart like I do with my desktop PC. Is this possible?
Yes, a restart on a Pocket PC is referred to as a soft reset and is easily accomplished. All Pocket PCs have a small recessed reset button that is usually accessible only using the stylus. To perform a soft reset, grab your stylus and follow these steps:
Turn on the power.
Press the reset button with the stylus and hold it for a couple of seconds.
Similar to performing a restart on a desktop PC, a soft reset on your Pocket PC results in data loss if you haven't saved opened documents and closed running applications. So, be sure to save or close anything you're working on before performing a soft reset.
