Authentication and Smart Card
As time goes by, smart cards are becoming more popular in the networking industry. Windows .NET Servers make it even easier to implement what was once considered doable only by using third-party components into Windows .NET. Following are a couple of ways Microsoft has made it easier to implement.
Certificate Authority (CA) Enhancements
By default, subordinate CAs can give out certificates to anyone requesting them. With the enhancements that have been made to the .NET Server, CA administrators can now create qualified subordination. This gives the CA administrator the benefit of specifying which namespaces are allowed to get a certificate and what the acceptable use of those certificates will be.
Terminal Server Can Utilize Smart Cards
This is another reason for remote clients to utilize smart cards. The capability for Terminal Services to utilize smart cards increases the security of networks' remote clients accessing a Terminal Server via a wide area link or through the Internet.
