Future Enhancements to 11i
Plans call for HP-UX to have a version available for the Itanium Processor Family (IPF) environment while still maintaining and enhancing the PA-RISC version. Version 1.5 of HP-UX has been released for the IPF platform as a developer release; shortly thereafter will come Version 1.6, which will be a production release for IPF. Then with Version 2.0 there will be a combined release containing bits for both the PA-RISC and the IPF platforms.
Some of the other planned enhancements include greater Linux compatibility, additional Veritas integration, and faster networking links. In addition, HP will be adding more security features and more protocols for mobile device support. For greater availability, HP-UX 11i will contain more dynamic tunable kernel parameters and more online modular and parts replacements for the hardware.
