2.7 Conclusion
This chapter gives you a taste of the complexities and the variety of devices and software that make up data storage. In addition, a wide variety of connection protocols and configurations go into assembling effective enterprise-class storage solutions.
The Federated Management Architecture and the Jiro implementation of FMA add a robust application programming environment to storage networking and any heterogeneous management environment. Components are built to conform to and use the services in the FMA specification. These components give control points to shared resources, common behaviors through the use of FMA, and common interface and capabilities wherever possible. Additional components can be written to automate management.
FMA can make it easier to componentize offerings from various vendors, making a complete solution easier to achieve. This book discusses how to build components for management of storage, and management in general, using the Federated Management Architecture.
