Connecting with Email, Dropbox, and ChatON on Your Samsung Galaxy Tab 4
When Samsung upgraded the Galaxy Tab 4 operating system to Android 4.4 (or KitKat), it updated the Email app, so its easier for you to find an existing contacts information. Samsung also threw a curve ball for users with the KitKat upgrade: The ChatON app may not be included as an installed app after the KitKat upgrade is applied.
Samsung wasnt the only app developer making changes to its apps in the second half of 2014. Dropbox also updated its pre-installed app on the Tab 4 with changes to how and where you share your files with others.
This article takes you on a tour of the changes to the Dropbox apps. Whats more, you learn how to find and download the ChatON app from the Google Play Store so you can continue to use ChatON as described in Chapter 15 of the My Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 book.
Get Email Contact Info
When you read a message in the Email app, you can tap the senders name at the top of the message page so you can add contact information. If youve already added the contact, you see several options for finding that contact.
Start by opening the Email app if you havent opened it already, and then tap a message in the list. Within the message page, tap the senders name at the top of the page (see Figure 1).
Figure 1. The senders name at the top of the message page.
In the contact window you see the name of the person (and a photo if any) at the top of the window as well and one or more email addresses for the person at the bottom of the window (see Figure 2). You can send a new email message to the email address by tapping the email icon to the right of the address.
Figure 2. In this example, two email addresses appear at the bottom of the list.
Above the email addresses and below the photo, you see a row of category icons that enable you to find more information about the user. The icons you see depend on the information contained within the contact record. In Figure 2, there are three category icons from left to right: Email, Google Maps, and Website. A blue bar appears underneath the icon to show information in that category. In Figure 2, the Email category icon has a blue bar underneath and the email addresses under the icon row.
Tap the Google Maps category icon to view the address underneath the icon, as shown in Figure 3. You can view the address location in Google Maps by tapping the pin icon to the right of the address.
Figure 3. You know the Google Maps icon is selected because a blue bar appears underneath the icon.
Tap the Website category icon to view the website(s) associated with the contact (see Figure 4). You can view the website in your preferred web browser by tapping the website icon to the right of the website address in the list.
Figure 4. The website icon appears as a gray and white globe icon.
If you decide that you just want to view information within the record without accessing any other apps (such as Google Maps to view the address), tap anywhere on the screen outside the box to return to the message page.
