The Android 4.4, or KitKat, update contains a number of new features. Some are hidden just below the surface, and some are hidden in plain sight. Fortunately, it's not hard to find and use these features to make life using KitKat on the Tab 3 easier.
Affectations
The first change you may notice in KitKat is that the status bar at the top of the Home screen isn't black any more. Instead, it is transparent, as you can see in Figure 1. The Status bar still contains the clock and all the icons you're used to, but the background is mostly transparent.

You can open the Quick Settings and Notifications screen as you did in earlier versions of Android: Tap and hold your finger at the top of the screen and then swipe down. Note that in some screens you'll see the Status bar in black as you always have, such as when you open the Recent Apps screen after you press and hold the Home button.
