Use Voice Commands
The voice commands of your Fire phone extend beyond the microphone icon located on the virtual keyboard. Voice commands are used to make calls, initiate text messages, and send emails, simply by holding and pressing the Home button.
Make a Phone Call
Voice commands enable you to initiate a phone call from any screen. All you need to do is press and hold the Home button on your Fire phone and follow a few instructions. There are multiple ways you can speak commands for making a phone call.
Press and Hold the Home button on the device, wait for the tone, and then say, “Make a call.”
When prompted, say the name of a person in your contacts. If you have more than one number for that individual, you are prompted to specify which number. You can also just state a telephone number and not a name.
Send a Text Message
Voice commands enable you to initiate text messages from any screen. All you need to do is press and hold the Home button on your Fire phone and follow a few instructions. There are multiple ways you can speak commands to create a text message.
Press and Hold the Home button on the device, wait for the tone, and then say, “Send a text message.”
When prompted, say the name of a person in your contacts. You can also just state a telephone number and not a name.
- When prompted, dictate your message.
Review the text. Say “Edit” to edit the message if needed.
You are asked, “Message changed. Send it?” Reply “Yes” or “Send.” You can also say, “Cancel” if you choose not to send it.
Send an Email
Voice commands also enable you to initiate emails from any screen. All you need to do is press and hold the Home button on your Fire phone and follow a few instructions. There are multiple ways you can speak commands for creating an email.
Press and Hold the Home button on the device, wait for the tone, and then say, “Send an email.”
When prompted, say the name of a person in your contacts. If you have more than one email address for a contact, you are prompted to choose an email address.
When prompted, dictate the subject of your email.
- When prompted, dictate your message.
- Review the text.
Tap Edit if needed. The Email app launches so you can make your edits.
- Edit the email.
Tap Send.
Search the Web
Voice commands also enable you to search the web from any screen. All you need to do is press and hold the Home button on your Fire phone and follow a few instructions.
- Press and Hold the Home button on the device, wait for the tone, and then say, “Search the web.”
Dictate what you are searching for, such as “Planetariums” or “Bike Trails.” The search results show in the Silk Browser.
