A Few Important Decisions Relating to Which iPad Mini 3 to Acquire
If you select the iPad mini 3 to be your new tablet, it’ll then be necessary to make a few more decisions in order to narrow down which system configuration best meets your needs. As you’ll discover, the iPad mini 3 comes in three casing colors – silver, gold, and space gray. This is purely decision to be made based on personal preference, as it impacts only the tablet’s aesthetics.
A more important decision is whether you want your iPad mini 3 to have Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi + Cellular Internet connectivity. This impacts the tablet’s price, but more importantly, when and where you’ll be able to connect to the Internet. Keep in mind, the majority of iPad apps require at least some Internet access to fully function, as do all of iCloud’s features and functions.
A Wi-Fi only model allows the tablet to connect to the Internet only from Wi-Fi hotspots or a home wireless network. Once you physically move out of the signal radius of the Wi-Fi hotspot, the Internet connection will be dropped. If you know you’ll be within a Wi-Fi hotspot most of the time you’ll be using your tablet, a Wi-Fi only model will be adequate.
However, if you want to be able to connect to the Internet using a 3G or 4G (LTE) cellular data network from virtually anywhere there’s a cellular data signal offered by the service provider you choose, a Wi-Fi + Cellular model is more suitable. To obtain cellular data access, a monthly fee is required once you select your cellular data service provider.
The good news, however, is that all iPad data plans are offered on a month-to-month basis, ranging in price from $10.00 to $50.00 per month, and no long-term contract is required. Within the United States, wireless data plans for most iPad models (including the iPad mini 3) are available from AT&T Wireless, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile.
