Choose Between a Wi-Fi Only or Wi-Fi + Cellular Model
A Wi-Fi only model of the iPad Air 2 allows the tablet to connect to the Internet via any Wi-Fi hotspot or wireless home network. However, you must be within the signal radius of a Wi-Fi hotspot to establish and maintain an Internet connection. When you move out of the Wi-Fi signal’s radius, the Internet connection will be dropped.
The Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Air 2 models allows the tablet to connect to either a Wi-Fi hotspot or a cellular data network. Just like a smartphone, you can choose which cellular data service provider you want to sign up with, and then pay a monthly fee for connectivity. Depending on the service provider and your location, 3G or faster 4G (LTE) connectivity speeds will be possible via a cellular data connection.
Cellular data plans typically cost between $10.00 and $30.00 per month, and offer between 500MB and 2GB of cellular data usage, but this varies between the various cellular data service providers. The good news is, you can pay on a month-to-month basis, without committing to a long-term service contract. Plus, if you travel overseas, its possible to quickly replace the SIM chip within the tablet with one from a local service provider, and then pay a small fee for cellular data service in that country or region.
In addition to the ongoing monthly fee for cellular data service, the price of the actual iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular models are a bit higher.
