iDo Notepad Senior (Diary/Journal/Dropbox)
Designed to meet the diverse needs of its users, this $3.99 app is chock-full of features—from the ability to mix-and-match the appearance of on screen text and graphics, to securely create and maintain lists or full diary entries that can be custom-formatted on the iPhone or iPad’s screen.
Individual entries can be linked to a specific date if you’re maintaining a daily diary or journal. However, the iDo Notepad Senior app just as easily allows you to store individual entries within custom-named folders.
From within the app, you can choose to keep everything you enter private (via password protection), or opt to share specific lists or entries. An entry can include text, photos, video clips, and audio clips (created using the app’s own Voice Note digital recorder). If you want to back up your content, iDo Notepad Senior is compatible with iCloud and Dropbox.
While this app utilizes large on-screen menu buttons to help you access its features and find your way around within the app, it is more complex to use than some of the other diary/journaling apps you’ll find within the App Store. It’s also, however, more customizable in terms of on-screen appearance.
As you’re entering text, for example, you can choose the font, font size, font color, and typestyle, plus highlight text (and choose the highlight color), and customize paragraph formatting. Then, as you’re writing, it’s possible to keep changing the text’s appearance as often as you’d like within each entry. Thus, you can create your own color-coding system or highlight key ideas within an entry. The current time and/or date can be linked to an entry with a tap on the screen.
