Working with the Windows 8 Ads SDK
Similar to Google’s AdSense and AdMob services, Microsoft Advertising currently offers a wide array of ad services for both companies and developers, and Win8 is no different. For Win8 style apps, Microsoft provides the Windows Advertising SDK for Win8. At the time of writing, the SDK is still in a Release Preview state, so the actual ad content is limited[3]. What’s more, payment terms for using the Ads SDK have yet to be announced, so you won’t be paid for including ads in your apps until the official launch of Win8, the store and the Ads SDK[4].
Though in a pre-release state, the API is pretty baked, so we can walk through a few examples of using the SDK in our own apps. You’ll want to start by downloading the SDK from the Windows Advertising site[5].
[3] And by limited, I mean limited to variations of ads featuring Gears of War 3 and nothing else.
