TuneIn Radio
Listening to downloaded tunes via the Music app or to one of the streaming music services is fine, and I do it all the time. But I still like to listen to traditional AM and FM radio stations from time to time. Unfortunately, Apple didn’t see fit to include an AM/FM radio in the iPhone, so what’s a radio junky to do?
The solution comes in the form of the TuneIn Radio app and service. TuneIn radio lets you listen to all your local AM and FM stations (even the HD substations) over the Internet, on your iPhone, in real time. You can even use the app to listen to out-of-town stations; just enter a location and see what’s available.

TuneIn Radio lets you browse stations by location or by genre. The app also lets you listen in to your police and fire bands, which has appeal to some. The app is free, by the waybut know that some local programming might be blocked for Internet listening, depending on the station.
This isn’t the only local radio app available, but it’s the one I like best. You may also want to check out the iHeartRadio app, which offers custom Internet-only stations in addition to terrestrial radio.
