Not all the music you listen to is physically stored on your iPhone. In fact, chances are your iPhone doesn’t have enough storage capacity to hold your entire music collection and all the apps you use, too.
The solution to this dilemma is to stream the music you like in real time over the Internet. You can stream music over any WiFi connection, in your house or at a public hotspot, or via 3G.
When it comes to choosing a streaming music service and app, Spotify tops the list. The Spotify service has more than 15 million tracks available, the largest of any streaming music service. Spotify’s basic PC-based service is free, but to listen on your iPhone you’ll have to sign up for the $9.99/month Premium subscription plan. That lets you listen to any or all of Spotify’s 15 million tracks as often as you want over the course of the month. It’s pretty much an all you can eat plan, nothing extra to buy or download.
Once subscribed, you can install the Spotify Mobile app. This app has tabs for Playlists, Search, What’s New, Friends, and Settings. Playing a playlist or an individual track is fairly intuitive; just remember, everything is streaming to your iPhone in real timeso you don’t have to take any music with you.
