- What Comes with the Little Black Box Known as Apple TV
When you think of Apple, what probably comes to mind are Macs, iPads, iPhones, and iPods. What might also think about the ultra-contemporary Apple Stores, or the clever TV ads you often see for Apple products. However, what typically doesn’t come to mind is Apple TV[el]at least not yet.
Sometime in 2012 or 2013, Apple is planning to release its own line of high-definition television sets that will be AirPlay-compatible, and allow viewers to access their iTunes content in order to experience it in true 1080p high-definition. Between now and when you invest in a new Apple television set, however, you can begin to enjoy what the experience will be like by purchasing an inexpensive Apple TV device ($99). It connects to your current HD television and home theatre system.
Apple TV Links Directly to Your iTunes and iCloud Accounts
Once an Apple TV device is connected to your television set and has access to the Internet (through your home or office’s wireless network), you can sign into your iTunes account using your Apple TV, and access all of the music, TV show episodes, and movies you’ve already purchased. Plus, you can purchase additional music, TV show episodes, and/or rent or purchase movies to watch on your HD television, just as you would from iTunes on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Because content you purchase through iTunes is automatically stored within your iCloud account, it can all be accessed from Apple TV, as well as your other computers or iOS devices. Plus, you can access your iCloud Photo Stream from Apple TV, and view your digital photos in high-definition on your television set. If you subscribe to Apple’s iTunes Match service, your entire digital music collection[md]not just your iTunes music purchases[md]can be streamed from the Internet to your Apple TV, and experienced through your home theatre system’s speakers.
