Managing Your Facebook Account with the Official Facebook App
When it comes to online social networking, Facebook is by far the most popular service of its type in cyberspace.
In addition to sending updates to your Facebook friends, which can include short tidbits about what you're up to or what's on your mind, Facebook enables you to share photos (or video clips) and multi-image photo albums, send/receive email, participate in real-time chats with your friends, participate in online special-interest groups, play multiplayer games (like Words with Friends), and interact with people in a wide range of other ways.
While browsing the App Store, use the Search tool, and enter the keyword Facebook. Make sure, however, that you download and install the official Facebook app for whichever iOS device you’re using. Choose the app that’s published by Facebook, Inc.
Only the official Facebook apps are designed and endorsed by Facebook, although many third-party apps enable you to manage your Facebook account and share photos, for example, from your iPhone or iPad.
When using the official Facebook, the screen is divided into columns. To access the main menu, which allows you to access your Profile and News Feed, plus access Facebook features like Messages, Nearby, Events, Friends, Photos, and Chat, tap the Menu icon that’s displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen. It looks like three horizontal lines.
Located next to the Menu icon are icons that allow you to manage your Friend Requests, Messages, and Notifications. Everything you’re able to do using the Facebook app is done by accessing the Main Menu, or through command icons that are displayed along the top of the screen or at the bottom of the screen.
On the iPad, when the tablet is held in landscape mode, a separate column is displayed on the right side of the screen that allows you to see your Facebook friends who are currently online. By tapping any friend listing, you can initiate a real-time, text-based chat. On the iPhone, access the Chat feature from the main Menu. It will then utilize a separate screen.
