Setting Up a Free Skype Account
Once you install the iPhone-specific Skype app on any iPhone model or the iPad-specific Skype app on the iPad 2, you can use the app with your existing Skype account by entering your username and password.
To set up a free Skype account and begin communicating with other people, go to the Skype website and click or tap the Join Skype icon. You'll be prompted to enter your first and last name, email address, birthday, home city, home country, gender, and mobile phone number. You'll also be prompted to create a unique Skype username. Instead of a phone number, this username is how you'll be identified online so that other Skype users can find and call you. Finally, you'll be asked to create a unique password for the account.
After creating your Skype account, you can opt to make your Skype username public, meaning that other Skype users will be able to find you online and initiate free Skype-to-Skype voice or videoconferencing calls with you. At the same time, you'll have the opportunity to create an online profile for yourself that includes your photo.
Once the Skype account is active, use the Skype app on your iPhone or iPad (or the free Skype software on your computer) to manage your Skype account, update your profile, and/or make and receive voice calls and videoconferencing calls, as well as send and receive text messages or instant messages.
