Voice Controls Bring Amazing Responsiveness
Hulu jumped onto the Kinect bandwagon when developing the Xbox 360 version of its premium HuluPlus video-streaming service. Gesture support and voice-controlled actions were definitely on the developers' minds when creating this Kinect-enabled app, and it shows. Just the ease of controlling the video playing on your televisionusing only the tip of your tongueis quite surprising.
Although HuluPlus isn't programmed to recognize whose voice is speaking, it recognizes very effectively what the voice is saying, and it performs that command within two seconds. This feature gives parents some one-liners to get their kids' attention: "Son, your Kinect is obeying better than you do," for example, or "Why can't you be more like your little Kinect?"
Then again, the Kinect doesn't distinguish your voice from someone else's; therefore, it will obey commands coming from anyone. Maybe I shouldn't use those one-liners on my kids after all.
