Hot-Swappable PCI Adaptors
With the advent of the Sun Fire 15K server comes the introduction of hot-swappable PCI adaptors. The system is designed with the ability to power on and off individual PCI components within the system via the SMS command line interface or Sun Management Center software GUI. The user can then replace, change, or add PCI cards without interrupting the operation of the domain. It is considered best practice for the user to ensure that applications using those devices being disconnected are capable of running without the devices and that no system critical resources such as the boot device are being detached.
TIP
Ensure that the application or system-critical devices have alternate paths.
