LogMeIn
The free edition, called LogMeIn Free (see Figure 5), can be used only for personal use. It offers basic remote desktop features. An application must be installed onto the remote computer, and then you can initiate access via the LogMeIn site.
You can sign on to your LogMeIn account to download the app onto the remote computer beforehand or send/share it to the remote user. Your account info is saved in the app installer, so once it’s installed on a computer it will automatically be listed in your LogMeIn account for you to remotely access.
Once you sign up, you’ll probably be put on a one-month free trial of the Pro edition. You can check by visiting the Subscriptions page of your account. During the trial, you’ll find many very neat features, such as system info, remote file management and sharing, chat, and remote access of most computer management tools and major settings via its web interface. But when the trial expires, keep in mind the Free edition only provides simple remote desktop functionality.
